Still has to get shareholder approval, and that has appeared to be less than certain on occasion.

Wonder what this does to WMG's alleged annual "kicking-of-the-tires" routine...

The WMG buyout has been dead in the water for some time. It's only the media keeping that alive at this point. Too many regulatory hurdles.

Interesting take on how the deal may not be completely done and Warner may not actually be out:

A masterful job by Eric to bring PE to the party.
It would be in the best interests of WMG to counter and try to make something happen.
The bid would have to be very high, like 300p or more for EMI to pull away from Guy Hands.
I don't think WMG is in any such position to make this size of an offer.

WMG has been using this coy promise of an EMI end game as the backbone of its plan.
Even offering 320p again buys them 2 years of dance time.
EMI being taken by PE ends the game immediately and puts WMG in a bad position.

One would think WMG will come with one last effort, then after that fails go on a buying spree with the new spin being:
"After analysis we are buying (management companies, catalogue, etc.) to further synergize WMG as a music company, not a record label."

I could imagine the horror at WMG yesterday when Terra Firma announced.

It will also be interesting to see how Terra Firma breaks from it's M.O of using a tremendous amount of its own executives put in place in the newly bought company they are working with.

they alos have experience with the EU and regulatory measures over entertainment assets and have been able to push one through (on the film side).
Which begs the question, will Guy's end game now be going after WMG after it sinks further?

Expect Terra Firma to securitize EMI's publishing.
Now if and I say if, they ran at WMG, they buy on the cheap, take the synergy savings on the recorded music side, sell off WC and are essentially in the asset business very cheap.

Not a bad concept and a great and well deserved turn of the table to WMG.

Abbe's on the money here... Just watch as WMG's stock price dwindles...

Though the regulatory experience might be of help when looking to divest publishing, no?

Interesting chatter at the Grubman affair Monday - Grubman has made it very clear to Nicoli that he will not deal with Ames probably based Ames' little hidden dislike of dealing with those of the Jewish persuasion. Seems Grubman is already tight with Terra Firma and at the center of his advice islighting a yarzeit candle for Ames.

Former EMI Group Chief Executive Jim Fifield, with the financial backing of private equity firm Corvus Capital, is in the final stages of preparing a 278 pence a share offer

LONDON (Thomson Financial) - Corvus Capital PLC, the Geneva-based company run by businessman Andrew Regan, has ruled itself out a rival bid for EMI Group PLC, market sources told Thomson Financial News.

Warner is expected to launch itself back into the fray with an offer significantly above Terra Firma's 265p.
