Just heard that as of the end of this year, Legacy will no longer release product to retail, shifting the focus to downloads. With Rhino basically not putting anything out (letting the art dept. and others go) it seems like the majors are leaving the reissue and compilation business to licensees. Any thoughts?

Well considering that baby boomers are basically Legacy's market..and they are the largest consumer of physical goods....yep..that sounds like a sound management decision to me.
Just kill it all why don't you?

This is dumber than dumb. Fine, send all the material to the Wounded Birds, Collectors Choices and Sundazeds of the world but are the labels going to continue making it hard for those people to make money on this stuff?

I don't see Rhino stopping. I just don't see them releasing any catalog that can't move units.

Agreed. There's a lot of un-committed stuff in the Sony vaults that needs to be mined. Considering that BMG's titles are now included in the Legacy venture, that's a double-whammy. On the baby-boomer era alone there's still a lot of music that SONY BMG hasn't let see the light of day....

Amen Brother!
I remember back in the day, that it was Sony who lead the charge to try to kill the LP. Once again, they lead the market in trying to dictate to the market. Let's hope that they indeed do allow others to mine their depths and put out cool packages.

We'll see. I heard there were numerous Bob Dylan Legacy titles scheduled for January '08.

So, LadyBug or whatever you call yerself with your 13 prior posts, what perezhiltonesquedatabank sewer did you pull this rumour grande out of????

Legacy isn't quitting physical product...by the end of this year or anytime in the near future. With the Sly & The Family Stone box comp and individual discs exceeding sales expectations and more boxes on the way this year alone, the powers that be at Legacy are keen in knowing that the physical market is far from dead and dying.

Thank goodness your tripe is just that.....tripas!!!
