20 years. Seems like longer.

I'm very happy for anyone who enjoys the album enough to count it as the best rock album in that time. If they enjoy it as much as I do Nothing's Shocking, then everyone wins.

Sadly the anniversary comes and goes with no reissue to celebrate it.

Why can't these fucking bands get over their petty personal shit and give the people who made them the stars they are a little respect?

Alright Bill, I do know my "there, their, and they're" rules. In my defense, I drank more liquor last night than I have in about five years, slept about one hour, and had to post at 7:00 a.m. to draw up new contracts for my company--with a boss very similar to Denholm Reynholm.

Although I knew you were well connected, I did not know you were close with Chris. I should have known, as I have noted your affinity of Stereolab in previous posts.

I think it may be an age-thing. Bill, you're a little older than me (but not that much) so maybe by the time AfD came out your musical-foundations were more set than mine. when the album came out I was 18, in the Army, playing hard, working hard, etc.. I was still developing my musical tastes/wants and American r&r at the time save for gems like Shout at the Devil and ? were not coming anywhere near cutting it for me. the first time I listened to AfD it was like someone finally put out the album that I'd been looking for for the past 5 or 6 years. no ballads, no hairspray (1st single/sweetchild-video being the exception), etc.. we (everyone else I knew) kinda thought it'd save r&r. obviously it spawned a bunch of crap-imitators over the next few years but for that year or so it was fkn raw & nasty r&r exactly like we'd been looking for. and even though there was never a decent follow-up to it I can still listen to that album and get nearly that feeling. - set & setting (ala T. Leary) may be the impetus here but I don't think so. I think the album stands on it's own as a monster.

I'm with Tomars. Monster album. One of, if not the best, album of the last 20 years. I can understand how it's not for everybody, but it was and still is for me. I listen to at least part of the album almost everyday. I for one am glad that they will never reunite - all it would do is tarnish the history.
