The drummer doesnt expect Axl Rose to show for the gig, though he is confident that a full reunion will happeneventually. Axl and I spoke to each other in Las Vegas recently, and I know theres a chance, Adler said. Its just too big. Whatever the Stones make when they play, wed triple it. Itd be ridiculous not to do it. He cant be that goofy.

That seems...optimistic.

Never liked the record and like everything else they ever did alot less. I was about 20 when the record came out so I'm in the age range.

Not ragging on anybody for liking it it's just I never thought it was a great album or anything even close to it. Such is the beauty of personal taste.

My fave records of the last 20 years would be "Pleased to Meet Me", The Stone Roses, The La's, "Definitely Maybe", "Is This It".......yadda yadda.

I saw them at the Troc in Philly around the time of release and my buddy turned to me and said these guys are going to be HUGE - he likes to remind me of that like it's proof that he's a genius or something. \:\)

Seems like more than a few of you feel "threatened" by a two decade old rock record...

Appetite is a fine record, but nothing earth-shattering. I don't understand why everyone makes such a big fat hairy deal over that freakin' record! Put the record back into the context of what was going on music-wise in 87 (Lisa Lisa & The Cult Jam, Tiffany, Whitney Houston)and you soon realize it didn't take all THAT to be head and shoulders above that garbage.

For myself during that time period, Nothing's Shocking was the album, and it totally and completely blew and still blows SchmAxl & Co. out of the fucking water.

Here are some more that dusted AFD:

Pleased To Meet Me - The Replacements
Diesel & Dust - Midnight Oil
Electric - The Cult
Franks Wild Years - Tom Waits
Youre Living All Over Me - Dinosaur Jr
Warehouse: Songs And Stories - Husker Du

I own all of the albums you mentioned, and all are fine records (Midnight Oil was extremely underrated, although they sold fairly well for a brief period). To say The Cult Electric is better than Appetite is a stretch. Nonetheless, great albums and they all still play well. But, none had the cultural or musical impact that Appetite did. Appetite spoke to the teenagers of that time, and captured the contradictions of American society in 1987 better than any of those albums--lyrically and musically. Moreover, none the albums mentioned, or artists have stood the test of time like GN'R has. Tell a 18 year old kid today about Midnight Oil and they wonder if you are discussing Dick Cheney's most current Iraqi Surge plan. Ask them about GN'R, and they will tell you how they love blasting Mr. Brownstone at their party! The facts speak for themselves--people are still buying, primarily teenagers, GN'R at a very high rate. What GN'R is to the new generation is what 70's Aerosmith or Zep was to mine. There is something very durable about great rock music that is made for the masses. Like it or not, that's how it is.

"Electric" is on par with "Appetite" (for me, at least) as long as I delete "Born to Be Wild" from the playlist.

20 years. Sheesh.
