Perhaps paying 19.99 is entirely for your entertainment. Imagine the experience you have over paying for something and telling your friends.

The Wall and The White Album can be had for a mere 29.99 each at Target and Best Buy.

On the sane side of the spectrum I saw the AC/DC remasters of High Voltage and Dirty Deeds for under 7 bucks at Walmart.

Not justifying the price, but at least those records are good.

true but it is amazing that it's 30 bucks for two records that are nearly 30 & 40 years old respectively.

Amazing indeed--expecially that these are just the basic, remastered double CD sets. No bonus DVD or extra tracks, nothing.

I'm sure someone here much smarter than I can tell us how in the world pricing these discs at 29.99 at discount stores in the year 2007 makes any kind of fucking sense, but I doubt I'll believe them.

I few years ago I had to replace my copy of The White Album, which I had lost during moving. It was $29.99 and I thought to myself, "Well, at least it's worth it." Since I listen to it at least a few times a month, I've never felt bad about spending that kind of money on a CD.

Heck, I'd pay $20 for a CD if I knew it was good from start to finish and not top-loaded with three good songs (at most) and ten tracks of filler.

Which, of course, reminds me of a very memorable conversation I had with Pat from the Smithereens when I saw the band in 1989.

He told me that "A Girl Like You" (Top 40 at the time) had actually been recorded but held off of the previous album, Green Thoughts, because the label felt they already had enough "good songs" for that album.

Of course, this, along with the realization that the industry would much rather sell fewer albums at a higher price (akin to a kid selling lemonade for $50,000 a cup with the mindset "Hey, I only have to sell one!") than more albums at a lower price (the advantages of which greatly outweigh any burden this would put on the major label infrastructure) is just another brick in the wall the industry has built between them and the people with money to spend.

The problem remains that what qualify as "good tracks" to you might be "filler" to somebody else.

After all, somebody must like "Piggies" and "Goodnight," for instance.

I used to run the Strawberrys' record chain for Morris Levy back in the late 70's. They are now unfortunately part of the Transworld Underworld. It is no wonder our business is in the shitter. Besides the ridiculously high prices they charge their stores are merchandised horrendously and you'll be lucky if the new alt rock act you're working is not in the fuckin' Bluegrass section. It's disgraceful. Morris must be rolling over in his grave!
