"It happened in Louisville, KY"
That has to be Phoenix Hill Tavern. I've played that big room upstairs before and it's always a clusterfuck.

Buckaloo, that story physically hurts...
Ringo, I am by no means trying to tit for tat with you, it's just that your funny fucked up tales keep reminding me of similar road weirdness.
I vividly remember playing in Whistler BC for the usual assortment of wasted slopers and meat market stoners in a small club one autumn. It was crazy hot and sweaty and after our set I needed some fresh air. A friend and I stepped out the back door, and entranced by the mountain wilderness, we forgot to hold the door. It slammed and locked hard, surprising us and the huge bear who suddenly popped his head out of the nearby dumpster where he was foraging for probably his last meal before a long hibernation. My pal and I let out very quiet screams, kind of like the wheezy, sandpaper laugh the old rummy in TV movies always has. We fumble at the hopelessly locked door and try to decipher what kind of bear it is and to remember if you play dead or fight a grizzly or black bear. He eyes us up and sniffs the air menacingly...
Which is when, mercifully, one of my bandmates, wondering why I'm holding up the encore opens the door and lets us in. The club's stench of cigarette smoke, stale beer and cheap cologne never smelled so good.
I'm sure all the musicians on the rope have similar stories of road strangeness. Who's next...

I think we should move to the Touring Forums and really unload. Most of the gigs I had were fun...MOST. However, I've got great stories from incidents, failed promotions and other assorted stuff that would probably fit better in that forum. :-)

You're right, that makes more sense. I'm only Arthur Bronze-arelli here... can somebody move this and the Best Gig Ever thread to the touring forum?

Oh, I had the best post gig in Whistler recently...I got up super early, strapped on my boots and took a solid hike around six am. Came back, put on kimono and padded off to the outdoor spa and heated pool. Had the whole thing to myself, steam coming off the water, fresh snow on the ground...mountains in the background. Enjoying a phatty and thinking "life is fuuuucking goooooood"...lol.

Don't get me wrong, I love me some Whistler, especially at 4:20...
The sloppy drunkeness and higher than the mountains vibe can make the crowds fun sometimes, but also lead to some pretty disjointed, non-communicative, blotto buffoons trying to count out the dough when you're settling at the end of the night with a promoter/manager who's living the lifestyle too much.

Hey brother, no offense taken.
Let's move this party to the touring forum...
