Could TVT have no legal authority to distribute and manufacture much of its own catalogue?

Could a newly registered Roper, whose sole two posts are devoted to starting threads about TVT, be bearing an agenda?

Noooo.

And I can't understand it, really. Steve Gottleib is such a nice guy.

Dear Judge,

Why was TVT reproducing and selling 259 recordings after applicable compulsory licenses were terminated by HFA?

Why does TVT feel entitled to exemption from the US copyright code section 115?

Most of all, why does TVT feel like it can screw publishers out of $3 mil?

respectfully,

HFA

while there are many, many GOOD people at HFA, collectively they can't pull their head out of their ass. all bark and no bite. settle for pennies on the dollar -- do they have any other choice? what good does infringement fines do against (any) bankrupt company? unfortunately, Gottleib won't be held personally responsible for this debt.

Sorry, I got the wrong forum. I thought this was the one for a "frank discussion of music industry happenings and rumors." E.g. a substantial record company going bankrupt and half the music industry showing up on the list of unsecured creditors.

My bad.

All ropers: Please resume "quipping" about iPhones and Great White's guarantee. That shit is hilarious.

I used to work at TVT....while TVT is not perfect...HFA screws up too. Many times their paperwork was wrong and incomplete. One time they were off by MILLIONS!!! I can't imagine any label is completely up-to-date with HFA!

Judge, The Rope has been weak on publishing for some time.

Even on the masters side, I'm not sure how many high level label people remain, even retired ones like myself. Who made the famous quip about Courtney Love and the Rope? She didn't realise this place was full of sales clerks (RIP).

NYCbiscuit is spot on in his assessment of HFA, though I'd say the best people left long ago. Vincent Castellucci could give even an operator like Gottlieb a bad day. And at least Ed Murphy reduced the commissions. Now that I think of it, it's ages since I received an audit recovery from HFA. Remember the days when audit recoveries were greater than commissions?

If anyone knows where high level discussions of publishing take place, kindly let me know. The last one I had was at a football match in the UK.

I have to side with the Judge on this. Who cares if the Judge has an agenda? That document link was a lot more relevant than 90% of the posts on here like the 18 pages that have been dedicated to the topic of when a cover is better than the original. While it can get annoying for somebody like Zisk to try and tie everything post into a promotion of his MusicTech Summit, I actually wish that there were more people with an agenda on the rope. There are actual people reading the rope for more industry info than to see how many songs can be named that have the word "pee" in them. Usually the best info is uncovered by people who have an agenda one way or another on an issue or a company.

HFA screws up?

To quote Lumburgh, "Noooooooo...."

The best people have indeed left long ago.

As for the guys running audit, don't EVEN get me started. Steve knew the mechanics for sure....but as for his subordinates....
