paramore are cute, cuddly, inoffensive and have an attractive singer.

if you're an a&r guy/gal, who are you taking?

if you actually like music, who are you taking?

i know what side of the fence i'm on and it's with the countess.

It's not that simple. LCD developed a strong buzz on their own, in in numerous territories. Paramore were on Fueled by Ramen, putting out a record in 2005. Their buzz developed by typical touring. Not every band with a hot chick breaks through.

LCD's last was worked by Capitol, Paramore by Atlantic. To video channels, Commercial Alternative, etc. Paramore got the adds (it was a priority for the label), LCD did not and was likely never a top shelf priority for the label.

My point is not who I would sign - which might be LCD by the way as they would have more meaning in other territories, nor who I would listen to, which is a very easy choice for me - LCD.

My point is that as you go wider and deeper into the mainstream, your sales pick up in relation to theft.

i'm not knocking lcd in the least, hair. i'm a james murphy disciple. i'm just saying his positives don't necessarily coincide with "the mainstream". he doesn't have the right "sound", the right "look", isn't the right "age".

in a just world, "get innocous!" would be blaring out of car radios but it is simply not to be.

Well, our next real tests will be Missy Elliot and India.Arie. This week's new releases, Fray and Red Jumpsuit both had albums that started slowly, then went on to sell well, so it's hard to compare these new albums to their previous efforts. But Franz and Hooba were both pretty brutal downgrades.

Okay, well India.Arie went from first week sales of 161k in June, 2006 to 72k in its first week out last week. That's a 55% decline in that time.

The Fray, with about 230k in its first two weeks, seems to be doing well. Entering the chart with the Fray, Red Jumpsuit Apparatus seems to be DOA. 27k in its first week, and below 10k its second week. Hope the label was watching advances and the production/marketing budgets on this one.

This week, we have Morrissey, Thursday (who are they?) and Charlie Wilson. Let's see what the numbers bring us in a few hours.

Here's some figures to ponder:

New Hannah Montana Soundtrack: projected at 120-130k
Last Miley release: 366k
High School Music: 292k
Jonas Bros last studio release: 515k
Camp rock: 193k
Demi Lovato: 91k

It seems as though the Hannah release numbers are weak, when you compare with all the other data there...

A couple of this week's numbers:

New Hannah Montana Soundtrack: 138k
Last Miley release: 366k
(Drop of 62%)

Martina McBride new release: 41k
Martina McBride previous release: 144k
(Drop of 71%)

Hard to argue with your numbers but Hannah is over. The tweens have given up on her.

Yeah, but is Martina over? She's a great artist who I would presume is still well liked in the country community. A 71% drop from the previous album to the current is fricking BRUTAL. I mean, at that rate, the total sales of this album may not equal the FIRST WEEK sales of the last album.

This industry is listing like the Titanic.

The Indusrtry will never have another have another Titanic. Remember when that soundtrack sold 17million gazzillion? The new U2 sold half the previous of their last. It's the older artist demo that will do ok. The new Diana Krall and Chris Botti are gonna fare pretty well comparable to their last. As far as Martina that's pretty surprising but has their been a huge radio hit yet?
