Most of us "kids" fiddling around with electronics these days know the importance of Moroder. I know you guys like your "inside poop"...I exchanged emails a few years back with Larry Lee, who played on Moroder's Munich Machine albums and worked out of his LA studio. He was helping close and sell off much of the gear, and mentioned that Giorgio was returning to Europe..to retire, I suspect. Which is a shame because someone like me would give their firstborn to work a track with him.

As the guy who wrote that first paragraph, this is in no way meant as a slam, but he more or less "retired", in the sense of doing any truly meaningful work around '84 or so. The album with Phil Oakey was great (though it would appear most of the real gruntwork on that was handled by Arthur Barrow), and the Sputnik album looks good (to me, anyway) on the resume, though I've never really been able to hear his presence on it much. (Brian Reeves, maybe.)

But for "I Feel Love" alone, he deserves every accolade that can be thrown his direction. If not the, certainly one of, the top 3 or 5 most important recordings, production-wise, of the last 40 years. (Though I'm betting that opinion and view doesn't fly with most people here.)

I Slave to the Dukka Dukka till the day I die.
I've posted this Casablanca vid of Moroder at work a few times, but it's still informative and fun.

You're also aware that legend has it the "sequencer" on I Feel Love is actually not, and is in fact hand-played?

There are so many stories of Producers having "one offs" that everyone now realizes it has always been about the artist.

Most producers are just glorified pysche people, budget people and referees. Remember AC-DC had 10 plat
records without Mutt, and Klink had only one with GNR.

A lot of lucky producers up at the right place at the right time.

Well, fine, but in Mutt's case, he certainly managed to show up in lots of places at lots of right times, then.

i would say Mutt has the best batting average of any producer.. although he did do maybe 5 records with a terrible british band called City Boy who never really had a sniff of success...
