Joel Dorn, though imperfect, was an absolute mensch and deserves more respect than this.

I think the Double D quoting Churchill on his Facebook page the day forty employees were getting shown the door is a good (and very recent) example of his kind heartedness. It appears that all these lay offs have gotten in the way of his victory parade. Here's DD's post from the glorious noise blog posted by Mr. Sensitivity the day after the sacking:

"Sorry to disappoint but Rhino is NOT dead. I know because I've been with the company for 17 years and I'm still with the company today (as are my 100+ coworkers). Yes, we made some changes yesterday in order to better prepare ourselves for the future, but we've done that several times over the past decade and just like before, we will continue on and do great work. While we are well-prepared for the digital future, we also plan to keep on satisfying fans of our physical products (both CD and vinyl), we just need to fine tune the way we do it."

A terrific email from DD to the GM about how DD should also be the head of marketing is another fine example of his tact. Too bad the GM copied the marketing head on this idea, asking him what he thought of it.

I'll finish by asking one question of the amused Ropers:

Give me a list of all the great Rhino CDs, Digital or LP releases that Dorn is personally responsible for bringing to life at Rhino.

The answer is zero
