I'm sorry, can you repeat yourself?

(I'm more jealous of having a head of hair like that at his age than the voice...)

His voice isn't shot, his range is diminished though. There's no way he'll be able to sing the Soundgarden classics in the original key with the original melody when they tour. His voice is comparable with Plant's in the early 90's; still a great singer with a unique and instantly recognizable tone and timbre but with a range that's been reduced from his former bands "glory days." And to be perfectly clear, I'm not bashing Cornell. I still love his voice.

He was singing a lot of the Soundgarden classics on tour with his own band just last year, same key as originally. Plus screamy classic covers like Zep's Immigrant song. I don't think his range has diminished much, if at all.

If you think that the chipmunk-like squeaking in those two songs equals the mighty roar that used to come out of Chris Cornell's mouth then I am just lost for words. Actually, those two clips are ones that I'd use to illustrate just how much of his range he's lost.

Well, nice to meet you, too. ;\)

Have to say I don't know what you're talking about. Not only does he sound great of late - based on what I saw on last year's tour he's actually a lot more consistent live now than he was in the 90s. There are some bloody awful vintage SG live recordings out there when his voice just collapses.
If the guy's range had really diminished, he'd have dropped those songs a key or two. Ditto "When I'm Down" which the other member posted from more recently.
I'm interested to see whether the other guys from SG can still cut it. Thayil and shepherd haven't done very much in the years between.
