Obviously everything can change in a heartbeat and who knows what's spin---but Citi has publicly stated that it's going to stand back and let TF screw itself into the ground. Nothing personal, they've been treating all their bad loans this way. The net effect might be they get screwed in the end but the way it rolls off their books makes it look nice. Citi's play here is a trident hydra. 1. Hands meets the covanents and all is well. 2. Citi plays their hand with Sperling and Bain for a WEMI. 3. Citi has Doug up their sleeve as a dark horse as he cares not a whit about owning EMI but would love to go out having Garth, Stones and Beatles under one roof all on his watch besting Ahmet's quest to be the home to the later day Stones and Beatles fragments.
EMI's current roster? Joss, Katy, Lily and Kylie would have their contracts fine toothed and be absorbed by the buyer if it makes sense. Wynton goes to either Nonesuch or Decca comfortably. The buyer lets Lovano and Elias go unless they settle for glorified p&ds. Willie goes out with the bath water unless Katz can convince the buyer to come up with a little cake for a glorified p&d. Montero and Fliter go to Harmonia Mundi in a sideways downstream. Who else is there?

Thanks for the namecheck, but for the (aha) record: while I've written notes for many Collectors Choice albums, I fell out of favor with Gordon a while back and the last album of theirs I had anything to do with was by Liberace!
I'm proud of the work I did there, however (most of the music not hip enough for the crowd here -- he had me specializing in MOR, hence the Liberace title), and totally agree with everything else you've said about the label. I'd put in a mention of Gordon Anderson's wildly eccentric (in a good way) sense of a&r, too.
They have an interesting business model in that when they put together their own albums, they keep them exclusive to their catalog for several months, then releasing them to retail (where you can often pay less than the original price). They have a terrific Paul Revere set out now: complete Columbia singles, both sides. And many people will appreciate that mono mixes are used when the compilers think they ought to be.

ending on "maybe not" was an attempt (apparently failed) to explain what you did: bankruptcy, even a sheltered restructuring, will screw the one pooch that occasionally craps out some money.
No, the mid-00's LBO's are all about written down debt, personal cashouts, and layoffs for regular people.
It should be illegal; it should make us sick. Thank God we have Fox News to ensure we just stay there, trading in the Hummer for the Prius (oops! - recall ...) and sucking our collective thumb.
