Anyone get sent one of these??? I did, and I'm PISSED...here's a guide if you get one too...grrr!!! Here's the link, for the pics...http://reviews.ebay.com/Beatles-Stereo-2009-Remasters-Boxed-Set-Chinese-Fake_W0QQugidZ10000000013193165 An eBay guide written by another used who was duped. Excellent guide!!!
Beatles Stereo 2009 Remasters Boxed Set - Chinese Fake? by: bengc( 4721) 29 out of 30 people found this guide helpful. Guide viewed: 628 times Tags: The Beatles Stereo Box Set | 2009 Remasters | Fake UK USA Set | Chinese Counterfeit | 17 CD + DVD
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Did you just buy the new Beatles Stereo Box set from eBay? After selling on eBay for 10 years, I thought I knew how to spot sellers of fake items. In late December, I bought the newly released remastered Beatles box set from a "reputable" eBay seller with a 99.7% feedback rating and a respectable recent feedback history. For $128, I thought I had gotten a great deal as the set was selling from $165 to $220 at other on-line sources. The seller had just dropped her BIN price by 20% in the last few days before Christmas with FREE shipping! I paid via Paypal and 3 days later the set arrives just in time for Christmas...
The set was a gift for my husband - an avid Beatles fan. He had been researching the new Beatles boxed set on-line for a few days already and had read several reviews and discussions on the Chinese fakes that were all over eBay. We thought we bought from a legit seller. When we opened the set, we saw the dreaded thin RED RIBBON pull tabs!
Then, my husband went straight to the mini-documentaries DVD and put it on the player. True enough, some Chinese characters appear before the main menu is shown. This is definitely NOT a set that has been manufactured in the USA as claimed!
Most sellers in eBay claim to sell "authentic" USA sets released by Capitol Records. If you look at the back of the set where the UPC code is, you should see an FBI Anti-Piracy Seal and Warning. If it is absent, then you obviously have NOT received a USA set (fake or otherwise).
My husband was so disappointed we went to our local warehouse club store that afternoon and got the set for $175 plus tax. We compared the two sets and took photos.
Weight: This may sound weird but we thought of weighing each set. The authentic USA set we bought from Costco weighed 4 lbs. The fake UK set we got in the mail weighed 3 lbs 11 oz. The 5 oz difference will explain the better cardboard material used for the authentic USA set. After just one day of handling the CDs to inspect them and take the pictures, the flimsy red ribbons are already frayed and the cardboard divider between the two CD compartments had already crumpled!
Misspellings and layout errors: Two of the CDs have very obvious careless mistakes which you would not expect from professional work. The fake Revolver CD has so many errors in the names of the Beatles - Paul MCCarirmy, George Harrisun, Paul McCariney, Ringo Start, Paul McCarlney (3x), George Harrieon. Robert Whitaker's credit appear as "BackcoverOKoloby" which should have read "Back Cover Color by". In the fake White Album, "Wild Honey Pie" appears twice in the track listing (in the 2nd and 3rd lines) while "The Continuing Story of Bungalow Bill" was shortened to "The Continuing Story". You will also notice that the spacing between words and the colon separators are tighter, the font size is smaller and the font color is darker in the fake White Album.
Stickers: Some of the fake copies have green apple stickers in front of each CD. This is probably because these are fakes which were sold separately after the release of each of the remastered albums. The CDs in the authentic USA set DO NOT have any stickers.
Darker color and less contrast: As with photocopies and original documents, photocopies appear darker than the original and have less graduations in color as pixel values are normalized with adjacent values. Hence, the artwork of the CDs appear darker and do not have the subtle changes in shade. The photography in the fake CD sleeves are darker. The photography in the real CDs are a brighter sepia color.
Other details:
With the fake CDs, the CD fits tightly within the jacket. In the authentic sets, the CD slides easily in and out of the jacket.
There is only ONE POCKET in the fake Past Masters pack, so the two CDs will be scratching each other when stored!
With the DVD, the apple in the label in the actual CD is redder and brighter. The apple in the fake CD is a dull brown.
VERY IMPORTANT: If you have bought a counterfeit Beatles set on eBay, PLEASE: 1. REPORT the ITEM (you can see the link on the item page beside the Print icon ) for investigation by eBay Trust and Safety. Choose Counterfeit and copyright violations ---> Potential trademark infringement --> Other replica or counterfeit items 2. FILE a PAYPAL CLAIM as Item Not As Described. Even if you have left positive feedback already for the seller and you later find out that it is a counterfeit, the seller should refund your money as selling ANY counterfeit item on eBay is PROHIBITED. My experience has been that if you RETURN the item to the seller with a TRACKING NUMBER, PayPal will give you the refund once re-delivery to the seller is confirmed!
3. Report the listing and the seller to the RIAA. Their website has a Piracy Report page where you can copy and paste the URL of the listing and you can add other pertinent details (name, address and eBay ID of seller). You can also call the report in at 1-800-BAD-BEAT. You MUST NOT be happy that you got your Beatles set for less than $100 on eBay; the same counterfeit set can be bought in China for $16! You did not save money at all. In fact, YOUR SELLER MADE MONEY on you on an item that has practically NO RESALE VALUE as it is a fake. Folks, just sharing a lesson learned for the new year... DO NOT save yourself those $$$ by buying from the cheapest listing you see. Get the Beatles Remastered Stereo Box Set from an authorized retailer. Let's support goods manufactured in the USA. The job you save can be yours...

Telling ya...I thought I was getting a real one for a steal of a price, $67 plus $11 shipping, and I got this bullshit...a claim is currently out there on PayPal and a report on eBay & RIAA's site...grrrrrr...it is sad and funny at the same time, and pathetic all at once.

Sorry I can't work up a whole lot of sympathy here. "Eternal optimist" is right!

Why would you leave positive feedback for a seller before checking out the item? Not a smart move.

I'll usually agree with this sentiment, but there were legitimate retailers (Amazon) selling the stereo box set at this price around the holiday's. Not an excuse to not exercise due diligence in researching before buying something online, but it wasn't exactly unprecedented either.

Amazon, you know where to go with a complaint. Even Amazon resellers, though probably the most Amazon could do about them would be to blacklist them.

To me this is the dirty little secret about Ebay -not only just how much fraud goes on there, but how they seem to turn their back on it. There is a ton and it's been going on for years. I'm very surprised that someone hasn't taken legal action. The artist I work with regularily has bootlegs show up there and I have filed numerous complaints with Ebay and didn't get so much as a response back. Whereas when Amazon UK was contacted about an unathorized cd thata appeared there they took it down immediately.

I can remember when they would take down bootlegs pretty regularly, but they don't anymore.
Years ago I bought a Beatles Christmas Album lp that turned out to be counterfeit (some of these counterfeits are pretty good; you have to hold the album cover close enough to be able to distinguish them by one telltale giveaway) and despite the many procedural hoops they had me jump through, they didn't do anything about it. I finally just had the charge taken care of by my credit card company. Now that nearly all transactions are handled through eBay-owned paypal, I'm not sure what anyone can do in unsatisfactory scenarios.
*When as I write this the next Beatles bootleg auction is at $157 with almost an hour to go, it's not surprising they still like collecting their percentage on these sales. Ditto these stereo and mono boxes.

I did not leave positive feedback for the seller, nor will I...and this is the first time I got screwed on eBay...every other time, no problem, like I recently got the Japanese version of Lady Gaga's "The Fame Monster" with the 3 bonus tracks for $28 plus shipping, as opposed to $50 on Amazon, it came in good timing, still sealed, a legitimate copy...as for some bootlegs, some ARE pretty good, like the Prince ones and the Russian ones of Beatle albums with tons of unreleased bonus tracks...those bootlegs I like, not cheap imitations of existing product with shoddy packaging and numerous printing errors.

Is the sound of the CDs the same as the officially-released mono boxes?
Did you really think you were getting a sealed, legit box for less than a third of list price?
