I'll start this one off (big surprise there!).

iPad goes on pre-order tomorrow. The new world order begins April 3. The product none of us knew we even needed will become the game changer it is intended to be.

But let's start with some of the nay-sayers. Here's one such dolt:

LINK.

Will the iPad change anything about the music industry? Will the LP format catch hold on this new device? What do we think?

I don't think its so much an opportunity for the LP Format, as for the video format, I'd much rather prop up my "pad" (sounds ??...hmmm) and check out some music via a tasty video than be squinting at a hand held print slide sized film

but where have all the tasty music videos of yore gone?....bring in some new visual feed format brain wave programming via the beats and/or some interactive fun, via games and surprises,,,and maybe, just maybe...ya'll can "inbed" some hit songs

The Apple MessagePad, eMate, and Newton were ahead of their time. Now the technology has caught up with the concept.

Don't get me wrong Oracle. I'm a Mac guy, and I own a Sony Vaio netbook too, but I seem to be missing the point on this iPad hype. I don't get it yet. I don't think it will be a success- just a gut feeling I have. I could be wrong too...

Not being snarky at all- Please give me the rundown on why it's a game changer when you have a moment. I need to know from an Apple expert!

What was Apple thinking? If you have a laptop and an iphone why the hell would you need one of these? They certainly aren't portable like an iphone and if i'm going to carry around a bag to fit this in I may as well bring my laptop.

I for one think this will be a big stiff of a product but I may be wrong. Sure has been good for Apple shareholders though!

Guyman,

You can see that there are a lot of people like "wheredid" who posted after you.

Here's the deal. Like I've said before...

You arrive home from work. Traffic was a b*tch. Your iPad is sitting in your TV room. You flick your TV on. And, you want to surf. Sure you could go to your briefcase, pick up your (heavy and bulky by comparison) MacBook, boot it up, then wait for Safari to launch. OR, you could simply pick up your pad and be surfing IMMEDIATELY, with a lightweight pad.

Your parents come over. You want to show them pics of the kids. Sure, you could all gather 'round the desktop or pass them the bulky laptop, but why not just give them the pad and initiate the slideshow?

You're watching TV, you're surfing, but you'd like to try to beat your top score on that Need For Speed game you just bought. TV. Game. Surf.

You're getting tired. You'd like to go to bed and read that killer novel you started. iPad. Or, you prefer to watch tv/film in bed. iPad.

You wake up the next morning. Grab the iPad. NY Times, WSJ and USA Today subscriptions all waiting for you on your iPad.

Hey, I wonder if that guy's written me from Denver? Check email. iPad. Turn on some tunes in the background while you read the "paper" and check your email. A little more Need For Speed before the shower!

Time for work. Plug iPad on charger, and off you go to work with your laptop for some heavy productivity. iPad waits at home for you.

You get home. Hey, my new issue of Time has downloaded onto the iPad. Must check that out while dinner heats up. Surf, Need for Speed, chat, USA Today.

You've got that little beach cabin rented down in Laguna for the weekend. Do you really need to take the laptop for the little overnighter? I mean, you might be fine with email, internet, some productivity Apps, your games, your books, your music, your tv/movies. So much easier to just throw the pad in the overnight bag than take your briefcase and all that bulk. Oh, wait, the laptop has no cell service...does the hotel have wireless? iPad doesn't need to worry about that.

This is clearly the product none of us ever knew we needed, but I'm fairly certain that once we all get our hands on one, we'll wonder why such a product wasn't introduced earlier. We will look at mice and trackpads and cursors as more a thing of the past. We'll get used to seeing and touching on an iPad screen. We'll appreciate the speed of the thing, being optimized just for what it does. It will become our new, most used device. Surf on an iPhone screen? Sure, it can be done, but you'll only do that when you HAVE to. From now on, laptop only used when absolutely needed, iPhone used for mobile, in-pocket access. For nearly everything else, it's going to be iPad.

That's how I see it.

Hmmmmm. sounds like a glorified Vaio netbook to me!

It's funny I've always owned Macs- and I have never owned a PC other than my girlfriend has one...

I travel ALOT, from planes to trains to subways etc. Last fall I went looking for a new laptop to augment my Blackberry.

Macs were waaay too large and expensive, and the range of netbooks offered by various manufacturers was impressive and less than $500!

So I bought a Sony Vaio netbook- and I have been happy with it. The size is perfect, and the screen is great. Can't upgrade the ram, but all I need is wireless, a browser and apps.

It seems Apple is losing this market entirely and I am not sure if the iPad will be the answer.

I do all of the things you mentioned. My Vaio is with my when I watch the TV, sometimes in bed for late nite emails, and its great to surf easily via wireless.

I'm still not sold on the iPad- I need to see the demo in person and touch it!

Thanks for the overview!
