Will my iTunes library transfer?
yes. Absolutely. And get a google app pro account. $50 a year. Same as mobileme, except you'll actually get all your email on time.

I request the mods relegate all of Oracles threads that are hyping Apple products to the hype section.

and i request that the mods contact iPoop and ask him why he scans this site for any mention of apple and obsessively proceeds to troll himself into a stupor. clearly he has no connection to the music industry and many of us suspect he is paid to do this.

Hench, you're starting to act like the music industry execs who don't want to stay abreast of technology. If they had half a brain, they'd be spending considerable effort to develop new music products for this brilliant new format of computing. After all, this will undoubtedly become THE product with which we will all consume our digital media, and you can be sure that the print media is moving rapidly to develop subscription products for the iPad.
The LP format has a new opportunity here, to develop a product which is part music, part visual, with all lyrics, credits, liner notes, etc etc. This truly is a great opp for our industry.
By asking that iPad threads be put into the hype section, you have proven that you have no interest in new content distribution formats. Perhaps you yourself should seek a new newsgroup which doesn't pertain to the music industry and how it gets its content to its customers?

No Oracle, Leaflet Apple spends enough on advertising and promo to inform people of their new products. Your full page advertisements have nothing to add.

As the iTunes LP shows, engaged fans don't want virtual souvenirs, they want physical ones and casual fans want neither. In addition, the authoring costs don't add enough value to the finished product, IMO.

LOL at the iPad being a great opportunity for the music business. Alec called it: There's nowhere near enough value received for labels to put muscle behind the visual aspect of most artists these days.
The artists who need that exposure most have already taken their careers into their own hands and started YouTube channels with studio, live, and miscellaneous footage. The ones who don't need that exposure aren't enough to drive some new monstrous hybrid LP/video format that's already been tried repeatedly (CD Plus, anybody?) and have the least motivation to do so anyway.
In any case, nobody is going to tie their future to this closed format anymore than artists followed Nine Inch Nails and created iPhone apps to repackage their music and brand en masse. That's not a failing of Apple. It's just that even the 30+ million or so iPhone and iPod Touch owners are a very tiny sliver of the people you can reach by going with open Web channels (YouTube, Facebook, etc.) everybody is plugged into already. Erecting another wall around another ecosystem is just dumb, dumb, dumb.

My quality of life won't be affected if I don't buy the iPad right now. I'll probably wait until the 3G comes out and when the prices go down. I think I'll use my tax refund to buy a new guitar...

Alec, you could absolutely be right. However, the Digital LP format may benefit from the same tactile feel that we expect the iPad to bring to various formats. See and touch. One might underestimate these basic gestures, but the iPhone proved the point pretty well. It's good to see and touch. I think we may find that, because of this, surfing will be best on a touchscreen of some sort...perhaps magazines, newspapers and books as well...so that leads me to think that there may still be possibilities for the LP format as presented on the iPad. However, I won't be shocked if the LP is dead already, either.

"I guess I must be lonely" ... your words, not mine.
Surfing and watching TV simultaneously, to me, indicates a serious problem with attention span. It does explain some of your posts.
Further, please do not entitle yourself to representing "my views." You don't seem like a dark personality, but you're not one of the people on here I want paraphrasing "my views." Stick to your own; you seem fine with that.
"OK, Science guy" ... sorry if your feelings are hurt that I think your product-use scenarios are completely off-base. I'm super-comfy with my observations on consumer electronics.
For the sake of argument, let me be charitable: I'm sure that the scenarios you suggest will in fact occur. And that from YOUR perspective, for "tons" of people. For me, "tons" would be a great big share of a market or population, and if you really think "tons" of Americans are surfing laptops in bed, you really need to turn off the TV, iPod, Macbook, Newton and other 20 appliances you are running and get out more.
Your breathlessness about all of this seems peculiar. But you're right, no need to poop on someone's enthusiasm; it's just that you implicitly ask us to share it, and seem to suggest that there's something wrong with us for not feeling the same as you.
There isn't. Not everyone goes hog wild over new Apple products. Your posts are getting so one-note as to be nearly unreadable; is that how you want to be perceived?
There's more to life than Apple gadgets. Branch out a bit.
